Nothing special here.

I achieved this by compositing render elements together in Photoshop - GI, Lighting, diffuse, reflections, overlayed with wireframes and a little specular for the glass to save time from rendering light rays passing the huge glass facade. Im getting comfortable with rendering actively in compositing programs rather rendering passively by setting all render settings and wait for my render to finish. Doing it actively gives me more ctrl and flexibility over my rendering.

Thanks for viewing!

The title of this piece actually means submission of one self, religiously.
The set is based on a location near the Holy Mosque, Mecca (the sillouhette on the right). Yet it uses 21st century middle eastern architectural elements and ornaments, using that to portray 7th century idea. (Islam begun at around 7th century)
Its a real life fact, given the current global situation, but I try to put it into a fantasy perspective - A millenia-old religion in dilemma.
Hope is almost the theme. Or salvation?
Modelled in Max and rendered with Vray. Lighting FX in AE and post production was done in Photoshop.
Thanks to Corbis.com for the royalty-free images, namely the praying people and the image of the holy mosque.
I had fun looking up royalty free images of ppl to suit my perspectives....

The lighting comes solely from the heliostat and ive adjusted the camera shutter speed for optimal exposure...but to speed things up i didnt turn on the heliiostat during the light prepass to avoid unnecessary long calculation.
Great design from the team of archiects headed by Hijjas Kasturi and Azzaidy Abdullah. Closely assisting them is Kris Budianto crunching in figures and cracking their heads in getting the design feasible.
It can only start to justify their effort by doing a render enough to pay homage to their effort.
Basic modelling done in Sketch up, smoothed and textured in Max (although ive failed to make it really show) and the rest fo texture painting and trees and people from the extual site photos.

So I've rendered it with basic GI with reflection and add the lights spots and glow in photoshop.
Environments are inspired by Stoski's Jedi Temple Matte Painting but its no where close...

Better yet is still to come i hope!

The Journey Begins

This piece is about putting tetrapods,(which is a start of the human evolution according to Darwin)

and the pinnacle of it (which is sadly depicted with a mushroom cloud from a nuclear explosion.),

in a single picture.

The journey is everything that had happened between the time of the tetrapods and the time of nuclear warfare discovery by human being (which was the tetrapods)

I think i can categorise this under the metaphoric entry for this CGChallenge.

I would like to thank everybody who has dropped by and give comments on this piece and of course to the organisers who had put up a good platform for artists to express themselves.

The Beauty Of Absence

Divine beauty to glorify a long gone era.
Held up to the heavens as offerings.
By what your senses perceive, by how your brothers died, I think it was not accepted.
A pair of hand held up high to the heavens.
Asking why?
The reason for all the silence, the absence.
Then the answer whispered into the empty heart.
"You are in a habit of glorifying voids."
This is a sequel of my previous entry, "Submission" which has adressed the issues and dillemmas that surround the muslim world today.
The theme speaks about the habit of building voids , indirectly symbolises the absence of true faith and belief.

This is an entrance lobby to a proposed hotel. The design has to be Neo-Islamic, something that cant be immediately recognized as Islamic. It is to be gilded on most areas.

Technically, this render is all about the depth of reflect-refract. The higher the value, the more realistic the reflect-refract will be, although i wouldnt have the correct shader for gold here.

Moodwise, i think it couldve been better. Now it looks more like a dark entrance to a dark castle....
